The accounting group at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business hosted Distinguished Visiting Scholar Terry Shevlin June 11-13.  Shevlin led sessions discussing his research and contemporary trends in accounting research each morning of his visit and spent the afternoons advising the MSB accounting faculty on their own research projects.

A faculty member at the University of California-Irvine, Shevlin has received a number of awards for his research and mentoring of PhD students, the most recent being named the American Accounting Association Outstanding Educator for 2012.  He has edited three academic journals: the Journal of the American Taxation Association (1996-1999), The Accounting Review (Senior Editor, 2002-2005) and Accounting Horizons (Co-editor, 2009-2012).  He currently serves on the editorial boards of four of the leading academic accounting journals.  His research interests include the effect of taxes on business decisions and asset prices, capital markets-based accounting research, earnings management, employee stock options, research design and testing issues.

Shevlin’s visit was sponsored by the Georgetown McDonough Dean’s Office and the Georgetown Center for Financial Markets and Policy.
